The Stag's Head
Dame Court, Dublin, 1895, by Alfred McGloughlin. This is one of the
inner city's institutions, though I haven't really drank here for a
long time. I've always liked it's corner elevations...it's a fine
example of Victorian architecture in the city with it's original interior very much intact.

I've had the odd pint or two in here...

Nice one Andy. I've never really paused to look at it properly before. You are right, it is a fine building.

I love the stag's head, in my drinking days I lived in the snug. Out of all of Dublin's pubs, my best recollections, though a ittle hazy, reside here :)

Ahh...the Stag's. Meetings that turned into sessions. Love it.

Thanks everybody for all the comments. For those of you who didn't notice, have a look at the notes in the photo for a bit more of the place...
Glad to remind ye of sessions past!

One of my favourite establishments architecturally. Triva: Educating Rita was filmed in here and was supposed to be a typical northern English pub.
Andy Sheridan (53 months ago | reply)
Well, that's one I didn't know...it has a very English apperance in fariness to it, as I suppose all buildings constructed in Dublin at that period do. The previous Cavan owners may not have appreciated that!!! Funny that there's no notice indicating it's 15 minutes of fame...

this is going on my list of stops when next in Dublin, though not sure when it will be.

Aw, I'm getting sentimental seeing this...a watering hole from my long gone studenting days in the early eighties...

Thanks to all!
@ Deb; thanks for letting me know this one made it to Explore...I find it odd the one's that get into that sometimes. I'd never have expected this to be one. When you get to Dublin next have a good look through my Boozin' set to see which places might tickle your fancy.
@ Dani; I'm delighted you think so!
@ Steiner; it seems this place holds the same memories for many who've passed through Dublin on their way...

Living away now I realize I never spent enough time at the "historic" pubs and way too much time at the Baggot Inn !
Andy Sheridan (52 months ago | reply)
What were you thinking Cú Chulainn? You know that they knocked the old Baggot Inn and redeveloped it? Their new gimmick is that you can pour your own Guinness...I'd say the tourists are delighted. Jesus wept...

Pour your own Guinness? That's not good! I was in the underground bunker that the Baggot Inn has become a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure why and I won't be rushing back. Didn't notice the Guinness being poured by punters though.
Andy Sheridan (51 months ago | reply)
Maybe they copped on to themselves...
Cú Chulainn [deleted] (51 months ago | reply)
Yeah sad to see tradition being ignored - can you imagine some tourists pouring a pint for themselves! lol so yes Andy I bet the fad won't spread... ahh the Baggot Inn..saw Stiff Little Fingers there once and I was only 16...:-)

Best Pub I was at in Dublin, thanks to Macs recommendation and your pictures. You should do shots of the food (Stag's Head Special Toast!) and the drinks as well. Totally loved it there. The people, the staff and the conversations I had, I even found the lamp and the window ^^
