There was a second death for Eurydice that came after the broken embrace. It took place in the middle of public transport, a scene of moss green underwater where Odysseus had not been. Among the salt canals that flooded the field of the sugar cane plantation, where she had been sometime mistress and found desire. Desire at this late stage, before she was to disappear and she did not know what to make of it. For she had kept on running for so many years and the farther she ran, the more he was there. Until one day, she saw him in a dress and pearls and wanted to photograph him and so invited him to lunch and laid out the white satin dress. And when it came time, she knew that it was not right, not right for Tiresias and not right for him. So she asked him to remove his shirt where she saw the scars of his life along the skin and in the pores and lines, she gave in and gave up. She thought she had wanted to be seduced but she did not expect this transgression into a life not formerly lived. It was green and full of fountains that she had not known. And she visited the garden before dawn as the hydrangea was full white and could have wept for all the salt water that had come in the night.
It was a sombre as a requiem, those whose she could not say, the sound depths of Mozart or who??? She was afraid to think of it too much, in case she found herself creating something that had not really been for she was prone to stories and making fantasies, all things that she had practiced for most of her life. But she had never found the entrance to the stories themselves. She was always left out.
