Writing with Trees as Ink - Google Maps Image
Here is a Google map from the Central Texas countryside. "Luecke" is written in trees. This was apparently done by clearing trees while leaving some in the form of the letters. This is also visible from space, and NASA has used this in estimating the scale that pixels represent in digital pictures shot from space.
I added in an inset of the letter E so you can get an idea of the amount of trees which represent each letter.
This reminds me of an art form called "Earth Art" or "Crop Art" wherein people use plants and various colors of soil to "paint" pictures which can only be seen from the air. I recommend getting a book that's out of print called Crop Art, if you're interested in this idea.

Did they give up when trying to spell "Luckenbach" when they noticed the type-o??

Yeah.. Interesting stuff, and HUGE!
I'm interested in Geoglyphs - writing or drawing on landscape - but the angle I've seen a few people try is via GPS tracks superimposed into Google. I've had a very quick go myself but some folks seem to do huge ones and then animate them!

Bluestaples, no they did not make a typo error......Luckenbach is LUCKENBACH. Luecke is LUECKE. I don't think anyone would be foolish enough not to get it right, when you are putting your name in your own land. And by the way, Luecke did most of the work himself, yes on a bulldozer. He is a great Christan man and never, no way, could you find a finer gentleman. He is a wonderful person. Too bad he is too discreet and not flaunting things. Many people have wanted interviews with him, but there is no way he will do that. He is just a country boy and takes care of his business. I have a son in the TV business in Texas. Would love to get an interview with him, but all Mr. Luecke does is shake his head 'no'.
