United States invasion of Panama

This action was preceded by over a year of diplomatic tension between the United States and Panama, the highlights of which were specific allegations by the United States that Noriega was complicit with money launderers and drug traffickers and a nullified national election in 1989. Several months of U.S. troop buildup followed these events in military bases within the former Panama Canal Zone.
