Sherbet

Sherbet

The rose in the background is The Reeve, a David Austin rose. I've no idea what the iris in the foreground is, having neglected to check for a plant label. The combination of colors here reminds me of sherbets. The combined fragrance of the roses and the iris was sublime...Photographed in the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden, Kansas City, Missouri.

Heritage

One of my favorite David Austin roses. Blush pink blooms presented in clusters at the ends of long, sturdy stems. Cupped form- the petals never really curve back like you expect and drop suddenly, poof!, into a little puddle when the bloom is ready to expire. Makes me think of a Phoenix bursting into flame. Beautiful fragrance heavily tinged with citrus. Photographed in the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden in Kansas City.

The Reeve

The Reeve

Another David Austin rose from the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden. The garden has a number of this variety, some climbing up stone walls, some grown as shrubs in the border. They were all very heavily in bloom when I visited at the end of April. Lovely old rose fragrance.
