The BBC has left the building

The BBC has left the building

Removing the 1997 "BBC" logo from the front of "New Broadcasting House", the former home of the BBC in Manchester. In the last few weeks, most departments have moved over to MediaCityUK.

Note that the pre-1997 slanted "BBC" logo left its mark on the building and this was never removed, likewise the "bonking worms" logo for BBC North West Tonight (view a video here), which was around for less than 3 years - perhaps it employed rather hot neons which literally burned their image onto the building.

I had just popped out from the office to get some lunch when I spotted the crane involved in this momentous job, so I grabbed a quick mobile snap.

Goodbye BBC. Manchester's (and west London's) loss is Salford's gain, but at least your horrible ugly building is soon to go.

Kew, by Q

Kew, by Q

There we go - this is Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, looking resplendent in autumn colours despite the miserably grey start to the morning. A nice "last interesting view" before the plane touched down in Heathrow.

Massively colour-corrected to compensate for the haze in the sky and the cloudy window that I had to take the photograph through.

Oh, and for those wondering, yes - I am still opposed to mass air transit... sometimes we aren't given a choice when we're needed at meetings on the other side of the pond. I don't think the budget or timescales would have stretched to Dr Ed's methods, greenly envious of them though I am.

Barn Elms Water Works, Castlenau, London

Barn Elms Water Works, Castlenau, London

When I took this, I hoped it was Kew so I could make some kind of pun about "Kew by Q". But I was a curve in the river too far east.

Battersea Power Station and Victoria

Battersea Power Station and Victoria

And that building to the left of the power station is, I think, home of QVC, once home of BSB (pre-Sky) and called Marco Polo House. Don't quote me on that, though.

I love how there's a slice of red-green through all the man-made yuck.
