A year ago today

A year ago today

I looked for my "year ago today" pic and found this one. Taken on 3/7/11 and posted on 3/8/11 - Oddly enough, this little Red Squirrel showed up in my yard yesterday for the first time this season - 3/7/12. :-)
Yesterday the temps hit 68 deg. This morning it is a rainy 37. Brrrrrrr.......
We had our one day of spring.

The red squirrel is a small squirrel with reddish to reddish-gray fur on top and a white or cream underside. It has white around its eyes. Its tail is not as long or bushy as the tail of other tree squirrels. In the summer, the red squirrel may have a black stripe on its sides. Its curved front claws and powerful hind legs make it a very good climber and jumper!

Blue Jay - Over the Shoulder

Blue Jay - Over the Shoulder

There is a family of about 10 Blue Jays that show up for their peanut breakfast every morning.
Sometimes if I sleep in a tad, I hear their call......... WAKE UP and FEED US !!

The Blue Jays also have a great warning system when there is a predator around. Usually hawks, sometimes feral cats. The call is different from the "feed us" call.

I think this is a good shot to see his feather colors (even tho shot thru glass). The Jays visit my yard all year long.

WIKI
The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to North America. It is resident through most of eastern and central United States and southern Canada, although western populations may be migratory. It breeds in both deciduous and coniferous forests, and is common near and in residential areas. It is predominately blue with a white breast and underparts, and a blue crest. It has a black, U-shaped collar around its neck and a black border behind the crest. Sexes are similar in size and plumage, and plumage does not vary throughout the year. .

Cassie_1984

Cassie_1984

Found an old photo and tried to scan. I think my daughter took this with an old Instamatic camera. This is my cat, Cassie, who we got a few months after we moved to Florida. She was about 8 wks old here. We had one cat, Puffy, and my daughter decided Puffy needed a friend.

Cassie was the best cat who every owned me. :-)
At the age of 18, besides having heart issues, she went into kidney failure and I lost her in 2002.
She had the kindest, mellowest disposition of any kitty I've ever known.

I know she is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge.

Cassie is not to be confused with my current calico kitty, Twiga. :-)

Floating

Floating

It was so much fun to be greeted by just about every animal in this small zoo. Winter weather with few visitors, seemed to make the animals yearning for people contact. :-)

The two River Otters kept swimming past me looking for applause, perhaps.... :-)
