"Neither One" Political Poster
This is what I've been doing for a good chunk of the last week, designing this poster for a show of "political" work that my friend Andy is curating next month.
There were about 100 different posters I wanted to do; but the first direction I started on was way too complicated (it involved doing about 50 illustrations!), so I canned that idea and switched to this simpler one at the last minute. I have no love for either of these shysters or their bullshit "two-party system," and am supporting both Ralph Nader's campaign and Cynthia McKinney's campaign for President...those should be our two choices (if Kucinich isn't running, that is).
Sorry if this is a bummer for all of my friends riding the Obama love-train, but the guy is just a conservative con-man with a good stage presence. I'll write more about him later. In the meantime, enjoy!
Oh, and 100 of these have been screenprinted; some of those will be for sale through the show/gallery and some will be for sale through me. 16" x 23". I've posted 11x17" PDF versions of the files on my website in the comments below so that people can download/print for themselves if they'd like.

very nice work on this poster PJ! While I see what you're saying,
I don't believe any of the 3rd party candidates have even the
slightest chance against McCain or Obama. It's somewhat of
a choice between the lesser of two evils, neither of which is ideal.
Jedi Kim (47 months ago | reply)
Why is it ALWAYS a choice of lesser of two evils?
Jacob...K (47 months ago | reply)
Yall are cynical

The job of 3rd party candidates are to be Republican lackeys and steal votes away from people who would otherwise vote Democrat.
*cough* Nader *cough*

Interesting comment Blake, as the Republicans themselves were a "third party" that appeared in the mid-1800s with a radical "anti-slavery" position. Seen many Whigs running for office lately? They used to be "one of the two parties." I don't give a shit which corporate criminal you think Nader "steals" votes from, I'd still vote for him any time. Those two in the poster are the ones "stealing" votes and airtime from him and the other candidates who might actually bring about some kind of tangible "Change." If you still believe that Obama offers any kind of progressive alternative to what we currently have, you're not doing your research.
Here are a few recent articles which offer a non-mainstream, truly-progressive viewpoint:

Sure Obama's got flaws, I'm still voting for him even though our votes don't really matter anyway (I'm a firm believer in "shadow government."
Sill I consider the alternative, i.e. Nader = McCain.

PS, if I ever run for office, I'm running on the Bull Moose ticket.

AWESOME poster, PJ! And I totally agree... I was so sad when Kucinich dropped out. I will also be voting my conscience this year, two party system be damned! :)

We need to shorten terms of office in Congress so that these "public Servants" are more accountable to the voter. There should be term limits like the president has. Unless the voting public gets control of both houses of Congress. Nothing gets done but what the lobbeyd want.
The presidents come and go but the apparatus remains as force unto itself. We need to get control of both before their will be real "change".

THANK YOU SO MUCH. It's good to see that there's someone else out there who can back up and look at the matter critically, instead of buying into the image of either party.

I see that you've taken to borrowing the conservative line that people need to prove that they care about the country: "Prove that you care about the future of our democracy. Study “third-party” candidates andvote for someone whose actions (not words)inspire you. Unless we do that, nothing important can ever “change.”"
It's curious how extremists mimic each other...
GIRLintheCAFE (45 months ago | reply)
very nice. this piece has obviously inspired much debate. i suppose i find it disturbing that some consider this point of view "extremist..." i don't see that at all. i don't think that questioning/challenging the system is extreme at all, but rather the appropriate duty of an informed and active citizen.
Democracy now! Let third parties debate, how can two individuals adequately claim to represent an entire country of over 300 million people? The system is broken, people. Wake up.
Me? I'm voting Nader.
Kialan [deleted] (44 months ago | reply)
I'm voting McKinney, because I'd like to see the progressive vote grow through the Green Party.

I am now writing my cat's name in, because he could do a better job than these 2 candidates could.

Word that shit. Also props "Dont vote for puppets".
I dodnt usually speak on the subject, but the way I see it, the purpose of voting is to legitimize their ascent to power. They gonna take it anyways, but I'm not gonna be part of it.
hazymat (44 months ago | reply)
Sick, the only shyster is a guy who encourages you not to vote at all.
The world is watching you Americans, and for reactions like that you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Wanda Eash AKA Craftymule (44 months ago | reply)
My thoughts EXACTLY. Nicely done! Of course, I'm still going to vote, but for the one that I think is the "lesser of two evils" .

After Obama does his best to turn this country into the socialist states of america I would hope that the people would elect someone like Sarah Palin for president. She is pro-life and this country will continue to fall apart if we do not put a stop to the murder of the unborn. If you have a problem with her being a christian thats fine I have a problem with Obama being pro-death. A lot of people didn't vote because their wasn't much of a choice. But thats how we got mr. integrity bill the liar clinton in office. Its time the american people woke the fuck up and took back their government before its to late. And if you can't do anything decent in your life don't kill your baby. Give it up for adoption and then if you still have a lust for blood go kill your dog or cat. But let the babies live you sick bastards.

I like your work, not your politics. The election is over, so there's no use discussing it, but if you don't think there was a difference between the two candidates, I've got two words for you:
Sarah Palin.
How would you have liked her a heart attack or stroke away from the White House?
JoeAT05 (40 months ago | reply)
I voted for neither

There's not one conservative bone in Obama's body. He plays by the rules of the extreme leftists, like Karl Marx for example.

I don't usually get into politics or politicians. They are like asses to be sat upon. We may not like them but we need them. Until Americans wake up and discover that these two parties were solely created to divide the nation, we will never get anywhere. The national debt skyrocked when the Republicans took over during the War for Secession. The Democrats supported slavery and States Rights. Now they both are so convoluted they swapped voters and values(whatever that means). Neither party knows how to run government, or balance a budget. All they do is spend, give themselves raises, fight for silly bills and are completely out of touch with the middle and lower class. Their issues are not my issues. They talk of change, but the only change I see are more people on the street corners begging for it, massive unemployment, single white males becoming the minority and the dollar becoming worthless. When I think of change, I think of the landmark reforms during Teddy Roosevelts time. Unfortunately, that was 100 years ago. Americans have become too relaxed in their little two party "Safe Zone." As long as we remain there and believe these two party's lies, there will never be any real change.
