Marilyn in Windy City
“Forever Marilyn” is a 26-foot tall statue of Marilyn Monroe, designed by Seward Johnson, and is on display at the Pioneer Court in Chicago until spring of 2012. The sculpture captures the iconic image from a scene in The Seven Year Itch, in which Monroe’s white dress is blown up by a vent from a subway grate.

Wall of Lanterns
I found this wall of colorful lanterns just outside of the Kidani Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. I took the five-exposure handheld HDR image with Nikon D700 and 50mm F1.4 lens. It was very late in the afternoon and there was not much ambient light. So I set the aperture to F4 for a little DOF, and varied the ISO automatically from 200-800 to maintain a minimum shutter speed above 1/30s for steady handholding. The tone-mapped HDR image was further processed in Photoshop CS5 with Topaz Adjust4 filters.

Combined Locks of Rideau Canal
This lockstation is part of the waterway structures that made up Rideau Canal in Ontario, Canada. The canal was constructed under the direction of British Military between 1826 and 1832. Here at Smiths Falls, the Rideau River descends 36 feet in less than 0.3 mile. The original flight of three locks were replaced by a single automatic lock in 1974, and has been preserved for viewing. The strategically located flower pots add some vibrant colors to highlight the different levels of the locks.

Old Montreal
Old Montreal is the oldest part of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Some of its buildings date back to the 17th century. It is perhaps the best place to enjoy a French experience without traveling all the way to France.

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
The AWCC is about an hour drive away from Anchorage, near Girdwood along the Seward Highway. It is a wildlife refuge for injured and orphaned animal species.
In 1964, the nearby Prince William Sound region was hit by a massive earthquake of magnitude 9.2 ...the second largest ever recorded in the world. The AWCC and surrounding area was hit by tsunami waves and all of the the trees were killed by the flooding sea water.
