Jackson and Lee

Where Art Museum Drive meets Wynan Park Drive stands a memorial to a different sort of meeting on May 2, 1863, at another junction. Early that morning the two most famous generals of the self styled Confederate State of America, met where Catherine Furnace Road joins the Plank Road not far from Chancellorsville, Virginia. It would be their last meeting. By the end of the day, General Lee would gain a great victory and suffer a crushing loss. As the sun set on that day, while pressing hard on an already defeated Union army, Stonewall was wounded in a hail of bullets from his own nervous troops. He dyed about a week later on the 10th of May. Prior to his death Jackson's left arm was amputated. This prompted Lee to send the following message, " Give General Jackson my affectionate regards, and say to him: he has lost his left arm but I my right.".
