One Lock, Two Lock, Red Lock, Blue Lock

While visiting a geocache along the New York State Thruway, we noticed this ridiculous little get-up keeping the emergency vehicles gate locked. I'm hoping the ambulance brings a torch instead of keys - they might be a while otherwise :-)

Wow that is wiered. I think you could really bring out the colour in that photo with a bit of simple tweaking in photoshop.

I found this photo in 1-2-3

I like this photo as is. While you could make it brighter in photoshop, the color on the locks holds its own. I love it.

You should sell it to the law for a really excellent "sign of the times" depiction of the endless ennui of knowing that, if you take the time to protect something, it probably will not work when you need it! Perhaps the law knows something about that, hmmm?

It will certainly make ambulance theives think twice!

Actually, you only need to unlock one of the locks, not all of them.

      Interesting photo, however.

I like the composition, setup, and the range of colors is really cool. Nice background as well.

I can't help but feel that the locks are a little underlit, though. Also, while the range of colors are nice, they seem a little muted - it might help to give them warm or to saturate them a little - I think the bright yellow and blue locks would pop the most.

BTW, the reason for the series of locks is that different folks have keys to the different locks, but it only takes one of them to unlock the gate.

Others (mathewroberson, CatMan) have pointed out the utility behind the locking arrangement. One commercial version may be viewed here: www.tayhope.com/products.htm, and the inexpensive, though prone to mistake, arrangement is simply to "daisy-chain" the padlocks. But neither of those carry the interest or photographic potential that Greg captured here. Great shot!
