Week 3 - Shadows

Week 3 - Shadows

Not much to say about this week’s photo. I didn’t have much of a concept, and I used a similar backdrop to the one last week. I’ve had a busy last few days and my creative energy has been used up elsewhere. I also had to make some difficult choices about my future, and I’m still not entirely sure about what I’m going to do. We’ll see.

Week 2 - Paper Thoughts

Week 2 - Paper Thoughts

This week has been busy for me, and as a result I didn’t have much time to dedicate to photography, so I decided to keep it simple (again). I still wanted the photo to reflect a bit of what’s been going on, so I settled on one of the things I’ve been doing: studying Mandarin.

People ask me why I decided to study Mandarin. I still don’t know for sure, even though I can think of plenty of sensible answers to that question. Suffice to say I wanted to learn a new language, one that wasn’t anything like the ones I already knew, one that would pose a true challenge. Well, I got that for sure, and then some. And I love it.

The papers you see flying around in the photo are filled with characters. You can’t see them at all, so I took a photo of them on my desk. You can see it in my blog. :)

Week 1 - Butterflies

Week 1 - Butterflies

This year I wanted to try my hand at the 52 Weeks project. I’m very rusty when it comes to self-portraits nowadays – actually, I’m rusty when it comes to creating photos (as opposed to taking them). So I’m starting off slow, without a specific concept in mind, just to dip my feet in never-really-familiar waters.

I have always been particularly attracted to butterflies. For me they embody the ephemeral, a beauty that is always transitory, a tragedy and a promise encased into a single delicate being.

It's good to be back on Flickr. :)

Stories

Stories

Or, The Mysterious Case of the Disappearing Girl.

This looks very strange with the Flickr sharpening. Anyway, I promised myself that this year I would try some new techniques, namely photomanipulations. So far I have only managed one attempt (what can I say, university eats up a lot of time) and this was the result. I wanted to portray the fleeting state of limbo between reality and imagination that occurs when one is reading a story, one that draws you in and puts the rest of the world in suspension. Not sure I quite managed to capture that, but it’s given me ideas for other works.

Self-portrait, with the participation of Gandalf, the Grey (cat). :)

Untitled

Self-portrait, taken a couple of months ago, in a small Portuguese town next to the sea. We were taking a bicycle ride in the middle of the woods when we came across this beautiful lake. One of those precious moments in life when everything seems perfect. :)
