I clicked this picture on the banks of the Brahmaputra river. Seen here are the remains of the statue of Goddess Durga which is worshipped with great fanfare during the Durga-Pooja festival, very popular in this part of India. At the end of the festival, devotees bid goodbye to the goddess by immeresing the her in the waters of River Brahmaputra.
The human like form lying face-down depicts the fact that nothing is permanent, not even goddess-status.

A goat being taken to the sacrificial chamber by a hopeful devotee. This guy probably is looking to impress the deity with this offering and get his wish granted.
I personally do not believe in this superstition.
