    BUDUBURAM LATEST NEWS

    March 24th, 2008 12:00pm:
The UNHCR has asked the Ghanaian Government to stop the unlawful deportation of Liberian Refugees.

    March 24th, 2008 10:00am:
After this morning visit to Buduburam of the Liberian Ambassador to Ghana, the remaining protesting women have agreed to vacate the field in the hope of bringing about the release of the detained women and putting a stop to the "terrorizing" of their community.

    March 23rd, 2008 9:45pm:
Police have again surrounded Buduburam camp and there is considerable fear among the inhabitants. Tomorrow delegates from Liberia are expected to come on camp and speak to the refugees.

    March 23rd, 2008 12:20pm:
Confirmation received that the plane carrying the deported refugees, landed in Liberia at 10:45am.

    March 23rd 2008 8:00am:
The plane carrying 16 deported refugees is said to have been unable to land in Liberia due to bad weather. We are waiting for confirmation of the fact that the plane is now returning to Ghana.

    March 23rd, 2008 5:45am:
35 people have apparently blacklisted as ringleaders. 16 of them are said to have already been deported, with 19 more still to be arrested and deported. It is believed that these are the individuals who participated in the recent meeting with Ghana's Interior Minister.

    March 22nd, 2008 10:00pm:
16 Liberian men and women are allegedly deported as "ringleaders" of the protest, including the youth and sports director of the Liberian Welfare Council, Natt Roberts. The other detained men have been brought back to Buduburam; many others are still on the run and in hiding. The women protesters have remained on the field despite police warnings that they should leave.

    March 22nd, 2008 9:30pm:
The 4 former child soldiers apprehended earlier this evening have apparently been released because they were in possession of UNHCR ID cards. However they are saying that the police "give you a few slaps before they ask who you are". Many Buduburam residents are spending this night in hiding.

    March 22nd, 2008 7:00pm:
We are extremely concerned by reports that 4 former child soldiers (from the association featured in our documentary "Telling You the Facts") have been arrested.

    March 22nd, 2008 3:40pm:
The Sierra Leonean community at Buduburam reports indiscriminate arrests of their people by heavily armed police. Meanwhile the Ghanaian government claims that the arrested men are instigating refugee women to continue their protest rally.

    March 22nd, 2008 2:30pm:
An unconfirmed number of refugees from Buduburam camp are awaiting deportation at an airfield in Ghana.

    March 22nd, 2008 9:40am:
Email communication from one Liberian at Buduburam:
"I'm sorry there is more trouble here this morning again. I was told that last night the government returned a few old women and children, but this morning they are moving from home to home and arresting men as well. Therefore every men are running into the bushes. All those arrested this morning have been taken to an unknown destination and more arrest still going on. I'm in the school alone and everything is locked on me."

    March 22nd, 2008 8:00am:
Ghanaian police arrive at Buduburam camp with 5 empty buses and begin going from house to house arresting men.

    March 21st, 2008 9:30pm:
Some 90 detainees are returned to Buduburam camp: they are young children, pregnant women and elderly women.

    March 17th, 2008 5:30am:
Ghanaian police arrest several hundred women and children who had been staging a peaceful protest since Feb 19th, calling for more generous repatriation packages. The exact location of the detained women is unknown.

    _______________________________________________________________

I mezzi d'informazione internazionali stanno totalmente ignorando questi eventi.

Your pictures are so compromised to reality, just like your concerns and what you dedicate your posts to. It doesnt just "look awesome", but also has a story behind it and a concrete meaning. It summarizes everything that is happening there in a fraction of a second, with no additional words needed. Simply admirable, your picture and your cause.
