also known as Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. This is one of my favorite specimen trees in my front yard. It's interesting in every season, but more so in winter months when you can see every twisty curvy branch. I have tried for years to get the perfect snow on the branches photograph and I think I may have finally succeeded.

We had a much welcome snow storm last night. With the warm weather we've had lately, I didn't think we'd get any snow this year. I happily grabbed my camera and rushed out first thing as the sun was coming up. After snapping some shots of the cardinals sitting in the sun, I headed down to the creek. It was a bit treacherous standing on the slick rocks in the middle of the creek, but it's all about the shot...right?

4 horseshoes embedded in the concrete for luck. When I first saw them I wondered how many feet had been rubbed over them trying to absorb their luck. Did the first owner of the business embed them there for decoration or to bring him or her good luck in their business endeavors. It's the little things like this that make visiting a small town like Milton, NC so cool. The ambiance of the town, the history, the architecture all takes one back to a simpler way of life.
