Yes, I recommend Photomatix, it's very
useful. But To obtain this effect Photomatix was not
enough, I have to elaborate it with Photoshop
(tools: Levels, Burn/Dodge tool,
Shadow/Highlights with Layer Mask...ecc.)

It's a Hdr from a single Raw file created with Photomatix and modified with PS.
