The Ruby Spirit
Most band promo photos seem uninspired, including my own previous work, and I wanted to do something about that.
This summer I tried to do something different with my friends in The Ruby Spirit. We got together with a special effects makeup artist at the undergrad chemistry lab at McMaster University and worked on some photos with the band styled as mad scientists.
This was the most straightforward shot, but I'm really happy with the result.
Strobist: A beauty dish on a 400WS light high camera right, a small square softbox on a 400WS light at the level of the subjects camera left and a third 400WS light with a reflector behind the subjects.

Milo
I wanted to surprise my girlfriend, Christina, while she was out at work by taking some well lit photos of her two year old Tabby Milo. Cute overload!
Strobist: A 400WS strobe on low power in a strip softbox turned sideways high pointed down at 45 degrees camera right.

Justin Zoltek
This is my friend Justin Zoltek. He's an amazing singer/songwriter and all around rad guy. As one of his many ongoing projects he'll soon be touring Canada doing presentations and workshops at schools helping kids write their own songs. We setup a shoot for some photos to be used in press and marketing for the tour. I have a feeling this is his favourite and go-to image from the set. I think it's very natural looking and I'm happy with the turnout.
Strobist: Canon 430EX camera right shot through a white umbrella as the key and adding a bit of fill to the wall to bring out the colour and fill in the shadows.

Kate Nash @ Mod Club – April 26, 2010
I have a bit of a soft spot for concerts at the Mod Club and indie artists from the UK. So I couldn't help but pursue the opportunity to shoot Kate Nash while she was in town.
I received confirmation only two hours before the doors opened, so I had to rush, but eager fans and a sold out venue couldn't stop me from getting my usual photos.
You can view the full set of photos on The Singing Lamb.
