After dusk, the commercial action of Yogyakarta transfers to the energetic and rabid night market in the centuries old and historical Jalan (Street) Malioboro. The street market stretches about one kilometre up to the old train station just near Kraton Palace. Althought the stalls open early in the morning, the strip turns bedazzling after 5PM. Sensational for a leisure shopping (haggle, haggle, haggle!), or perhaps just taking in the humanity of faces in the dokar or horse drawn carriage or the manually-driven tricycles called becak. A trip in Malioboro from end to end is about 3,000 rupiahs ($0.30).
