Tawi-Tawi

Tawi-Tawi is said to be derived from the Malay term jau jau or faraway.

Tawi-Tawi by Farl.
Tawi-Tawi by air is a precious sight. All of 107 islands of this southernmost archipelago of the Philippines are beyond description. I hope my pictures will help capture the experience of seeing a part of my country which most people do not really have the opportunity to visit. Still pristine and uninhabited, a lot are just tourist attractions waiting to happen if only peace and order could be improved.

On the contrary, I hope your government can keep tourists away from this heavenly place.
If tourists really want to visit here, let them see it by airplane.
Sorry I spoiled the fun of your flickr friends...

thanks everyone! I hope to reach out to the flickr world the beauty of Tawi-Tawi.

rel- yes, Batanes is one of my next destinations in 2 weeks-time.

chen- it is conflicting. the people here are poor and needs every help it needs to keep the economy moving, tourism most especially. but overdevelopment will also be a disaster.

wow, this is really beyond words... and so underrated. it's really a shame that the press (both local and international) have been really harsh about how they make the world think of this part of the Philippines. their reports on insurgency and unrest by would-be terrorists are just so exaggerated to a point that it's just pure nonsense! thank you so much farl, for opening this lost world up to our eyes again.

P.S. Your pics really inspired me to go to Tawi-tawi. :D hehehe

siriusblacklivesforever- there are 2 nice hostels in Bongao. one is near the city (Kyrstal's I think). then there's Beachside. don't have the numbers though. I took the SeaAir place between Zambo and Bongao. I have never taken the ferry though. good luck!
