montanaman1, this radio is not made of wood, but of a kind of bakelite formica made by philips called "philite". the feet are wood and the details are bakelite. and it was surely a great find, in this mint condition. congratulations!

Thanks a lot. What I like most about this radio is its unusual shape, and the big Philips logo in the loudspeaker. This model was released in 1931, and was made in several countries (Holland, Germany, the UK and Spain, among others). It did not remain under production for very long, as technology advanced very quickly in those years and the radio's circuit soon became obsolete.
The Philips company had patented the famous waves and stars logo not long before. The three undulated waves indeed represent radio waves, and the stars are the symbol of the evening skies in which radio waves can travel very far.
