Walking over the sea

Walking over the sea

This is what supposed to be the best part of the experience. When the sea is actually there, it comes to the very top of the causeway and it feels like you are walking on water. A mile long causeway connects Haji Ali Dargah, which is built on a tiny island (practically a rock) in the Arabian Sea, to the mainland. Unfortunately, during the low tide months it looks like this - the sea disappears and there is one huge wasteland on both sides of the causeway. Of course, during the high tides, the causeway is completely under the water.

Still it is an amazing place...On the one end of the causeway there is this very modern Mumbai skyline, on the other end an ancient mosque, built in 1431. Pretty crazy. You can see the mosque view in the comments.

I was hoping to find a swan...but no.

I was hoping to find a swan...but no.

Geese pictures must be cliche for sure because even in my stream you can find more than a few. I am not even talking about the whole Flickerverse. These are our native North Carolinian geese who, I think, will be moving to Canada soon. Just to maintain some natural balance since all Canada Geese seem to relocate permanently to North Carolina...Yes, Canada, it's payback time!

HCS, you all!

Picket fence Friday

Picket fence Friday

It is pouring rain right now. It is 64 degrees at 7:00 in the morning. It is nuts.

So no snow fences for me...or anything resembling a winter fence even slightly.
Still, Happy Fence Friday, everyone!

Monterey in early November...The weather could not have been more beautiful and pelicans were not the only ones enjoying it.

Double sunset

Double sunset

Sorry I haven't been around for a while...had a lot going on. But I'll try to catch up with your streams within the next couple of days.

This picture was taken on the only day I picked up my camera this year and went for a walk with it. Which is a shame, because around New Year I upgraded to D7000. Traded in my old Nikon D90 (can't believe it has been 3 years since I got it) and got a very good deal on this one (I love Adorama people...they are super nice, very fair, and never push any additional stuff on you).

It is not a dramatic upgrade, but D7000, aside from better focus and better high ISO picture quality, has a few very nice features. My favorite is a viewfinder which is a million times brighter and clearer than the one on D90. It also is "what you see is what you get" kind of viewfinder - no cropping around. Oh, and D7000 can communicate with the lensbaby!! For example, this one day when I took the camera out, I had just a lensbaby on it and shooting was fun, fun. No sudden urges to take my lensbaby off the camera and throw it into the lake. So maybe finally I'll start using it more and actually enjoy it. New Year resolution?
