Oh dear, somewhere there is a bird with a headache :((

This imprint was left on my sun room window. Any ideas how I can prevent it? The bird flew away OK.

OUCH! Headbutts 'r' Us left a mighty big impression...you saw him leave? Mine usually sit in a box for half a day and with a lot of luck, leave then ona "wing and a prayer" window clings are the only preventative that I can think of besides adhesive tape...window clings arent exactly esthetically pleasing, either, but the new gel ones are kind of cute, something like stained glass...I will send you a package, if you want, and they are not something you can get there...have the bluetits laid eggs yet? That huge tree...izzit yours?

Thanks vf. I have just been looking in my catalogues for those window clings but haven't found the one with them in yet. It has happened before. I heard the collision last time but was out today. They are always gone so they must have hard skulls. That huge tree is indeed mine - my sycamore that has the bird box about 14 feet up it so I can't see in it. The parents are busy flying back and forth so maybe the eggs have even hatched already? I do hope I see them when they emerge.

That's quite an imprint! You could consider hanging something in front of the window like a wind chime or a bird feeder. Around here they sell twisted plastic strips in bright colors that are about 15 in. long and twirl in the wind, I don't find them all that attractive, but according to a friend of mine, they're very effective. Good luck with the little bluetits.

Wow!! That is some imprint! Your huge tree is . . . really huge!! :-) What kind of tree is it?

Well here at the zoos they put like huge bird decals in black or other colors and the birds see something on the window and don't fly into it. When they can see something on the outside they can see the window...if it's too clean and clear they can't tell that it's there and think they're flying into the house...

but my is that a gigantic mark

      Thanks Tabbi Kat.

Jilly - I've just seen them in a catalogue so will order some soon - don't want any brain damaged birds. What is "decal" short for? Hehe:)) I didn't think my windows were that clean!!

wow! poor bird! I'm glad it was able to fly away and it didn't break your window! We've had humming birds fly into the big window at the office.

Sycamore . . . duh!! I read all the comments but just not correctly. Sorry. My sycamore has very different bark. I went to the bird store this morning and picked up two packs of WindowAlert for you . . . if you are interested. If vf gets you some too, you will be in good shape! It says to replace them after . . . 18 months, I think.

beeble: the last time one hit the noise was very loud and I was worried. I think it is large pigeon types that do it - bit thick!
Jasmine - as ther was no sign of a bird on the ground I assume it flew away.
Jilly - thanks for the definition!
Bev - we do have it here - but thanks for thinking of me though!

OH, goodness, I hope the bird is okay! I have seen this on commercials but I never thought they did this in real life.

Thanks for adding to the group Janet. Great photo! I think it might be a pigeon, but I'm not sure. The body looks really wide at the bottom. Kind of pigeony.

Richard: I live near woodland and there are very large wood pigeons around - I'm sure this was one of those!
