Laura's Wedding Quilt
This was made as a wedding gift for my husband's sister Laura and her husband Glenn, who were married July 25, 2011.
The blue fabrics are 12 different fat quarters from a Robert Kaufman Kona Solids fat quarter bundle in the "My Blue Heaven" colorway, and the gray sashing is Kona Ash. Binding and backing fabrics are a polka-dot and a Morse Code fabric from Connecting Threads. No official pattern on this one -- I just took 12 5" charm squares cut from each blue fabric and arranged in a Roman Square, where each fabric appears once in each row and in each column (like a Sudoku puzzle).
I won't lie: while I love the concept of this quilt, I'm pretty unhappy with the execution. There's a major mistake in the block arrangement. I struggled with shifting issues despite using a walking foot. I figured out a much better seam-matching technique halfway through, after sewing a lot of less-than-perfect seams. Still, the overall look is exactly what I had in my head, and I know it will be enjoyed even if it won't ever win any quilting shows.
