Moon Village in Winter

Moon Village in Winter

A neighbourhood on the edge of the city which is known as a Daldongnae which literally means "moon neighbourhood/village". They were mostly constructed after the war by refugees and almost always on the sides of steep hills where nobody had previously wanted to build. The got their name because they were always up high and out beyond the city lights so residents could see the moon clearly at night when they walked home from work.

Daejeon, South Korea.

Mural

Mural

On the wall of an old house. It was really run down. I couldn't tell if someone lived there still or if it was abandoned. If only there were yuppies in South Korea who were into renovating and snazzing up old houses. Some of these places would be amazing if you sunk a fortune into modernizing them with heating, insulation and some mod-cons. Instead they are crumbling into the mud. Sad.
