Ceintuur Theater, Amsterdam - facade
One of the prettiest purpose-built cinema theatres in The Netherlands,
the Ceintuur Theater was erected in 1921, designed by architect Willem
Noorlander. It was also one of the first buildings in Amsterdam to be
constructed of enforced concrete. This not only allowed for a stunning
Art Deco facade, but also a balcony that didn't need support from
view-obstructing beams or columns. The cinema opened on April 2nd,
1921. The last show was on the 30th of December, 1976.
In Photoshop I've painstakingly removed all the tram's powerlines that
were obscuring this masterpiece, which is my favorite theatre
(architecture wise), with the Tuschinski.
In 2004 the building got a national monumental status (Rijksmonument), #527853.

The front has been nicely restored since I took my pictures of it. Great photo, thanks for adding it to Cinema Architecture.

Erg mooi Roloff!

Stagedoor: I think it's not that different inyour picture, just a lot cleaner!

Good job removing the tram lines. Thanks for that. This is a truly unique and beautiful facade. I don't think it really fits in Streamline Moderne. To me the building itself is actually more Art Deco with a lot of Art Moderne thrown in. The three central pylons would fit nicely on a Streamline Moderne building. Maybe there are some different opinions. Thanks for letting us see it and capturing this great building.

Thanks Handy, perhaps I should study the Streamline Moderne design more!

I'm very happy to have seen it. If you want to understand Streamline Moderne Design, we have several great posts in our Discussions at the group. It will make it all clear to you and easy to pick out in the future.

ik woon hier om de hoek, en dit is 1 vd mooiste panden uit de buurt. Ik vind het altijd zo jammer dat er zo'n lelijke winkel in zit..

I took some of the wrought iron on this building.Great shot ,and did you want to add these to the Amsterdamse School/Art Deco and Jugendstil-pool?.I saw "Junglebook" the first/last Disney movie i experienced here as a kid.At least the front is preserved.I believe it was raw concrete originally(?)
