I was amazed at how tiny this spider was as it navigated the fluff.

Supermoon over my house

Supermoon over my house

I spent considerable time planning this shot, using a combination of the US Naval Observatory data, Wolfram Alpha, and Google Earth to pick the right spot opposite my house in an adjacent field. It all came together quite nicely.

Moss Spores

Moss Spores

Utilizing the same focus blending technique, I went out after the rain stopped and found a collection of moss-covered rocks, and the moss had begun to sprout spores.

Forest Violet

Forest Violet

Vermont's understory is starting to emerge from the brown thatch of dead leaves. This shot was something of an experiment for me. I no longer own a dedicated macro lens, but I do have a manual focus 85mm f/1.4. I put a 36mm extension tube on it, which allows me to focus from about 8-10 inches away.
I set my aperture at 5.6 - which at this range gives a very tight depth of field. I took 6 shots, focusing on the closest petal, then a little further toward the center, then the center, then the far petals, etc. I aligned and blended these layers in Photoshop, which automatically chooses the "in-focus" elements from each layer when building the composite. It does about an 85% accurate job, and then I cleaned it up by manually blending and masking the parts that needed attention.
If you look closely, you can see me reflected in the raindrop.
