Vic Chesnutt is al sinds het einde van de jaren '80 een protégé van R.E.M.-zanger Michael Stipe die zijn eerste twee albums produceerde. Chesnutt is zo'n typische 'musician's musician': bewonderd door collega's maar nagenoeg onbekend bij het grote publiek. Toch is hij één van de belangrijkste Amerikaanse singer-songwriters, wiens klagende stem en schijnbaar onbeholpen gitaarspel door merg en been gaan.

Zijn laatste project is een samenwerking met de eveneens uit Athens, Georgia afkomstige folk-rockgroep Elf Power die de zwarte melancholie, die als een rode draad door Chesnutts werk loopt, subtiel opvangt. Samen met Elf Power sloot Vic Chesnutt in het Paard van Troje de elfde editie van Dag in de Branding af.

Dag in de Branding is een eendaags festival dat viermaal per jaar op verschillende locaties in Den Haag plaatsvindt. Elke editie opnieuw geeft de avantgarde van de muziek acte de présence in een spectaculair festivalprogramma dat duurt van 3 uur 's middags tot 3 uur 's nachts.

geweldige muziek. Prachtige stem. Doet me denken aan Paul Weller (ook zijn gezicht trouwens). ik kende hem helemaal niet. Na een ongeluk kon ie zijn handen niet meer gebruiken, dat zie je ook aan zijn spel. Mooi in zijn bio is "meets Joni Mitchell". Ga dit weekend even ploegen in zijn muziek. Dank voor den tip.

Eerlijk gezegd vind ik het op deze foto iets te veel aanwezig, maar het schept wel een bepaalde sfeer.

Die muts was eigenlijk veel te groot, zodat-i de hele tijd over z'n ogen zakte. Hierdoor was Chesnutt steeds bezig die muts naar boven te duwen. Bij het maken van foto's heb ik daarmee rekening proberen te houden.

Ja, 't is een onwijs interessante muzikant. Leuk dat zo enthousiast bent!

Prachtig portret en met dat paarse licht valt het nog wel mee: het draagt bij aan die bijzondere sfeer.
