If you follow the Thames path upstream, after the O2 arena, you will see the tall modern towers of Canary Wharf on the other side of the river. Canary Wharf is a major financial centre in London.

Inside the O2 arena.

Inside the O2 arena.

It was my first time inside the Millenium Dome, now renamed as the O2 or the O2 arena. There is a big arena to accomodate sport, music or special event. You can also find a cinema, numerous restaurants - nothing original - the same ones that can be found anywhere and lots of empty space.

View over O2 and canary wharf.

View over O2 and canary wharf.

Here you can see O2 arena (first known as the Millenium Dome) and the high buildings from Canary Wharf. Seen like this, you would think that there are next to each other ... but it's an illusion as the Thames flows in between.

along the thames.

along the thames.

Here is the view you get when you walk along the Thames path just after the Thames barrier. In the background it's possible to see the Millenuim Dome now called the O2 arena (after their sponsor) and the tall buioldins from Canary Wharf.

Once again, it's an HDR image made from 3 differently exposed photos (-2,0, +2) ev, tonemapped with Photomatix and fine tuned with LR.

Thames barrier : open.

Thames barrier : open.

Here is another view of the Thames barrier in which it's possible to see the towers of Canary Wharf in the background. There is some work going on around which prevented me to move a couple of steps on the left in order to get the towers in between the barrier ...

The Thames barrier are located downstream on the river to protect London from being flooded after a record high tide or a rise of the sea nearby.

About the photo : it's an HDR image made from 3 differently exposed photos (-2,0, +2 ev), tone-mapped with Photomatix and fine tuned with Lightroom. This late stage took me ages as I wanted to mimize the "ugly HDR" look visible on the early versions even on the thumbnail size !

Thanks for reading this.
Enjoy your week-end.
