The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, is a complex of buildings in London. It is the seat of the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons). The palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the London borough of the City of Westminster, close to the government buildings of Whitehall.

Stop, this is the empire of Death

Stop, this is the empire of Death

The Catacombs entry is in the western pavilion of Paris's former Barrière d'Enfer city gate. After descending a narrow spiral stone stairwell of 19 meters to the darkness and silence broken only by the gurgling of a hidden aqueduct channelling local sources away from the area, and after passing through a long (about 1.5 km) and twisting hallway of mortared stone, visitors find themselves before a sculpture that existed from a time before this part of the mines became an ossuary, a model of France's Port-Mahon fortress created by a former Quarry Inspector. Soon after, they would find themselves before a stone portal, the ossuary entry, with the inscription Arrête, c'est ici l'empire de la Mort ('Stop, this is the empire of Death').

Niesen Mountain - Switzerland - Niesen-Kulm

Niesen Mountain - Switzerland - Niesen-Kulm

Niesen Mountain has earned an entry into the Guinness Book of Records thanks to its staircase - which has 11,674 steps. However, one does not have to climb the world's longest staircase to enjoy the view from the mountain (which is a destination for excursions) or to enjoy a stay in the mountain house Niesen-Kulm. The staircase was only built to enable maintenance work on the nostalgic cable car and is only opened once a year for the Niesen Staircase Race, a climbing marathon that has been taking place since 1990. By the way, the fastest climber so far only took 1 hour to climb the staircase.

The panoramic cable car takes passengers in about half an hour to the peak of Mt. Niesen, which is well known for its impressive panoramic view that sweeps from the Black Forest to the Bernese Alps.
