Toronto
Taken back in Jan 23rd 2003 - quite a spectacular view from the CN
Tower. Perhaps someone will post a more recent picture from the same
location so we can see how much of it has changed??...
See where the photo was taken at maps.yuan.cc/.

Nice.
How you managed to take such a great view of Toronto?
Looks like taken from hc.
innusa (70 months ago | reply)
Nice shot. Great skyline!! Definitely looks different from the time I was there in 97.
caribb (70 months ago | reply)
tka group - Thanks Tero.. it's actually taken from a tower, the CN Tower which at the time was the world's tallest free standing structure... not sure if it still is but it is impressive itself. I'm sure everyone who goes up there gets this exact same shot. Toronto is always growing so in three years there's probably some changes to this skyline.
innusa - Hey nice to see you back from your worldly travels! From 1997 to 2003... yep I'm sure TO has changed a lot. It's a happenin' place.
Christopher Stumm (70 months ago | reply)
I don't think it's changed that much. Most of the new buildings (condos) have been growing on the other side. But there are supposed to be a few new skyscraper additions this year, like Trump's new tower, 1 king west, etc.
Mr.Pixel (70 months ago | reply)
Wow what a beautiful skyline. Very interesting photo and a very good angel here !!!
Kingdafy (70 months ago | reply)
Was this taken from the lower or upper observation deck?
caribb (70 months ago | reply)
Christopher Stumm - Thanks for commenting! I doubted there would be many changes afterall even in the biggest cities new super tall office towers are rare events. Toronto though has such a nice skyline.. nicely composed, interesting designs that blend nicely together with the CN Tower overlooking everything.. I really like it. This new Trump Tower, is it going to be the tallest in the city or just another everyday 60 story building (LOL... like we have anything on that scale in Mtl :)?
F10 Ghost: Thanks very much. I agree with you on the beautiful skyline. Looks sensational from the ground too especially at night.
Kingdafy - It was taken from the lower observation level inside. I didn't go to the top level... in fact since 9/11 this is the only building I've been in and gone up higher than say 10 stories. Not really a plan but an weird reality for me. I'm kinda comfortable with it too.

Caribb, yes this is a fairly common shot from theCN Tower, but certainly a view I never tire of. Most of the growth in T.O. is taking place just to the west of the CN Tower, a development of 20 highrise condo buildings known as Harbourview City Place:
caribb (70 months ago | reply)
Redroom Studios - Wow that's going to be amazing! When I'm in Toronto I'm always in Mississauga and I'l floored by the number of high rise condos along the waterfront... That trend never came to Montreal, most of our condors are low rise but often very nice nonetheless. This project will fill out the empty space along the western Toronto skyline nicely.. Hope it's a big success for you!
Christopher Stumm (70 months ago | reply)
"The 70-storey Trump International Hotel and Tower, Toronto will be the most luxurious and exclusive residential building in Canada when completed." Or so says their website.
Supposedly the tallest residence building in Canada. They talk a lot about the view it will have but it's wedged behind other buildings, so I'm not sure how they expect to have a view of the waterfront.
Also, the logos on the top of the BMO building have changed - in my opinion - for the worse.
caribb (70 months ago | reply)
Hum 70 stories... pretty tall. Isn't the BMO Tower 70 -75 stories high? Itwon't be much taller anyway.. and like you say if it'sin among this cluster of buildings there won't be much of a view.. still though it sounds like a cool project and the fact Trump is involved it will probably be quite lavish.
On a side note, in Montreal no one is permitted to build a building higher than Mont Royal... so there will never be buildings much taller than what we have now... 50 stories seems to be around the max.. not that we really need much more than that anyways.
Christopher Stumm (70 months ago | reply)
from what I've heard they've had some issues selling enough spots in the building. I believe they've been trying to develop the land for a while now. We'll see if it ever gets off the ground.

Great picture! I can't believe I didn't go in the CN Tower yet, not even during a business trip a few years ago. The view is really nice...

Funny... the tallest building of TO is from la "banque de MONTREAL". The fight continues. WAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!
PS: The Bank of Montreal skyscraper is the withe one.
Ps: However, great picture! THANK'S!
caribb (66 months ago | reply)
Well actually the tallest building in Toronto is the CN Tower which is where this photo was taken from. Toronto is the financial centre of Canada and all banks including BMO is located there... technically the head office is in Montreal (like the RBC) but for all intents and purposes it's really based in Toronto. Sad but it's Canadian reality that the population around Southern Ontario pretty much overwhelms all other parts of the country leaving Quebec, BC & Alberta in the dust for most things... let alone other parts of the country with less economic power.
RamRovPib (66 months ago | reply)
Well, CN tower is not a building, is, as the name says, a tower .
caribb (66 months ago | reply)
It is a tower. I tend to think of it as the tallest building in Toronto but the BMO building is the tallest standard building I guess. Anyways that's the way it is I suppose. We're restricted in Montreal by Mont Royal which is a height limitation for our buildings so we'll never have anything of this size unless someone builds one outside of the downtown perimeter.

i see a difference! Right behind commerce court, white building to the right of the red scotia tower and behind one of the black td towers, you can see just the southern edge of 1 King West.
caribb (61 months ago | reply)
punchbuggy_ca - Thanks! I'd be curious to see the differences by 2013.. Toronto keeps growing and growing, it's amazing.

Toronto is such a beautiful city, I want to live somewhere in Canada when I'm older, lots of people say I'm stupid because I live in Australia and lots of people want to live here instead, but its so boring - a little bit of advice if you think Australia is so great, even Sydney is a strict 12hr city!
caribb (55 months ago | reply)
WorldFlickr - Thanks!
alexindigo - Thanks also!
Tims Reflection - Thanks tim. I think of Canada and Australia as being very similar in respect to quality of life or what each country can offer someone looking for a better quality of life. I'm sure there are places out there where you can make more money or it can be more exciting but both our countries offer a lot of things on many levels those others do not. So perhaps you think Australia is boring but I'm sure it isn't really. Canada sometimes seems boring to people from larger more populous countries but often they only feed into what's generally the image their media makes of Canada and likewise Australia. I think you'll find Oz much more interesting as time goes by as I have Canada. We should switch places for a year and see what we think when we return LOL.. Betcha we end up liking both place equally. Toronto by the way is a great place... same for Montreal & Vancouver and all three very different from each other. Sydney, Perth and Melbourne I'd bet are also similarly related.

Love your picture. I went to Toronto recently and took a picture near this spot. It looks like a building is going up to the left. I saw eight or so cranes building in the downtown area when I was there.
