Great Wall of China (Dec 2004)

A large snow storm was approaching and whiting out everything in the distance.

This is a section of the Great Wall that is at MuTianYu. This section is a little farther out than other, more popular, sections, but it's worth the extra effort in my opinion. (Less tourists, better views)

Well if you have not taken much landscape..you certainly have an eye for it (although I have read that true landscape is not supposed to contain man made structures)
This picture with its wall positioned so that it gradually leads you into the frame, stopping at the watchtower, then takes you slowly on a meadering stroll into the dim distance...yes you can almost feel the cold.
You certainly need one of those over priced cups of coffee!!

not easy to take good greatwall shots (as they all look the same) and this is a v. good one!

Thanks for the compliments! I took this (and the others in the series) near the beginning of my efforts to become serious about my photography.

I still have sooooo much to learn. I appreciate it when people, such as ya'll, take the time to comment!

I love the composition - the curve of the wall is just superb. And I laso like the hint of colour..
      very good indeed

I like this one, too. I wonder what a closer crop on the right would look like? Also something about the pole detracts from the mood.

You have a very nice photostream! And I thank you for the helpful comments on mine.

Superb shot, I love the way it looks almost sepia! Snow is forecast in the UK this week, so I am hoping Flickr will be full of snowy pics. (1-2-3 group)

The faded, contrasty rendition works beautifully.

I'd love to have this image in my living room! I really like the composition, lighting and colors! I feel that I could just step into this photo and walk onto the wall! Of course there's a sense of history but, also there's a bit of a mysterious mood as well!

I like the other picture more, although this is lovely too! I've been there and let me tell everyone, it's soo cold!! I remember walking up the steep inclines to each tower, feeling very hot at the top and taking my scarf and hat off, seconds later I felt so cold I put them straight back on!! The cold there is unbearbale and it wasn't snaowing when I went!! Full credit to you for talking some good photos along the way!!

As far as this photo goes I think the space over the wall is too much, and I think a more wide screen type framing would work better.

I've just been to your photos, very nice! Come see mine for some more China photos? What do you do in China?

      beautiful photo
I like the depth of it
      well chosen angle
and the fact it goes foggier as further we look is adding character

      well done

very cool shot, I love the way the wall just continues on into the white nothingness in the distance. The snow on the wall is a nice touch too it too.
