I saw this yesterday and tried really hard to
get a picture, but was basically afraid to so
much as slow down while driving through he
neighborhood. Thanks for the welcome back.
This is on the left hand side of Fifth Ave,
heading downtown, couple hundred feet after
Jubilee. If you can find the huge DIVE tag
on the open faced building, it's not too far
after that.
So Bold! man, those crack dealers don't give
a f__K! Hilarious, and tragic, capture,
Hryckowian. Reminds me of a billboard I used
to see in Wilmington on the way to
Philly.."Kick Heroin in 4 Days!"...
that such a billboard existed on a major
interstate blew my mind.
The grafitti shown here has been officially
covered up. You can still get crack and any
number of street drugs in the Hill (and just
about anywhere in Pittsburgh), but the
grafitti pointing out the problem has been
washed away.
Big hand to our local governments and up, for
giving us bandaids while we're hemoraging.
look at how many people are employed now
because of this. coulda just been the
dealer, but now you have an entire city
department devoted to cleaning the walls,
verifying that the walls have been officially
cleaned, checking to see ifhte wall is
greffiti free, someone sells the paint,
someone to sell the cleaning products . . .
it just goes on & on. you are focused
on the dealer. widen your scope
i can't help but think of the contrary to
this. Businesses that sell dangerous products,
alchohol, firearms, etc. Or Multinationals
that have really crummy business records and
labor problems, Starbucks, Nike, and these
businesses affect even more people than the
local crack dealer. Its an enormous campaign, and I,
hesitatingly, applaud the person painting
these. -k.see

Ha! Fantastic shot.
May I editorialize? The "War on Drugs" is a pathetic joke.
Oh, and by the way add this to Word on the Street.

This is like those signs you see in tourist areas: "Photo Spot Here". I have one from San Fran in my stream. cracks me up.

I cant believe a specialty shop can still exist in this economy - I would think that they would have to carry other diverse merch
