new neon at the old hotel berry

The Hotel Berry was a fine hotel, built in the late 1920's, and opened in 1929. In it's day, it was a one-block walk to the theater district (K Street), and 3 blocks from the Capitol. It enjoyed status until the 1940's, and then declined from fine hotel progressively to SRO status. Of late, it's been a last-ditch home for the down-and-out. It suffered for a long time. Then last year, a complete renovation project began, which will transform this building into livable housing for people in need. It's a controversial project - there are some public redevelopment funds being infused, and that certainly has raised the ire of fiscal tightwads, but for the people who have, and will, depend on this place for a safe place to sleep, it's home.

It's still just one block from the theater district, and it's still 3 blocks from the capitol.

I never tire of this image.

Unfortunately, this day was fairly lumpy and my time taking pictures was limited to aiming, then dropping the camera to grab the paddle.
Repeat, over and, over.

I got nuthin'.
