Cerebral Palsy

    Day three hundred twenty-two/365.
    I have a brother and a sister with cerebral palsy. They both live with our father, and will until he dies.

    Recently, I've been seeing and hearing an increasing number of commercials implying that cerebral palsy is a preventable condition caused my medical malpractice.

    That can be true. But, those commercials are probably sponsored by lawyers looking for litigation. Cerebral palsy involves brain damage, and it can be caused by any number of factors. We do not belive my brother or my sister is the victim of medical malpractice.

    I hope, when folks see and hear those commercial messages, they realize that we live in a litigous society, and research the facts about cerebral palsy.

      There was a big "TV Lawyer" in the early 70's with this message, I think the name was James Sokalof or something like that.

      Though it is true that some cases are CP are the fault of the doctor or other hospital staff, the majority of these cases are not. There are so many factors that can lead to CP.

      John...Excellent Point!
      Some of the commercials I hear really distrube me if I let it.
      Some and usually there are a lot of things that "should be said" and aren't because they just want to say their part they want to profit from.

      Any of us that are different are not just grateful for exceptance we can treasure it :)

      Your father is a great man with a big heart to do what he does instead of walking away like some might believe it or not!

      Thanks for that comment, Beth. Growing up in my family, I was connected to many others with cerebral palsy. We did notice that many families with kids who have special needs also ended up with divorces.

      I posted this photo more than three years ago, but it's suddenly received renewed attention. I don't know why is has, but I'm grateful for that.
