I attended many games at the Polo Grounds in the 1940's. Especially when Stan Musial and the St. Louis Cardinals were in town.

A grandstand seat cost $1.25 and the bleachers were .50 cents!

Smokey Joe Wood pitched for Boston in Game 1, and defeated the Giants and Jeff Tesreau 4-3. A quote attributed to Wood after Game 1: "I threw so hard I thought my arm would fly right off my body."

As I scan this photo I am reminded of the times back then, and I wonder if they had a PA system to announce to the crowd. Did they have electronic PA back then?
