凌晨三點，湯德章紀念公園 (台南市民生綠園)。

1947年二二八事件發生，湯德章被選為台南市治安組長，維持該市治安。3月初，以平亂名義進入台灣的國民黨軍隊國民革命軍21師殺入台南，3月13日湯德章以叛亂罪名，被該軍殺害於民生綠園。
由於取供，湯德章先被倒吊刑求一夜，肋骨被打斷，後反綁雙腕，背插書寫姓名之木牌，綁在卡車上遊行台南市，然後押赴民生綠園槍決。其死狀悽慘，子彈穿入湯的鼻梁及前額，鮮血腦漿噴灑一地。軍方仍不讓湯德章親人收屍，逼其暴屍公園。
直到國防部長白崇禧將軍巡按台灣，下令「二二八叛亂疑犯」全部移送台灣高等法院審理，結果在隨後的高等法院宣判中，湯卻是判決「無罪」，証明其無辜被害。
為了彰顯湯德章於該事件中維持治安的功績與無辜受害的悽慘，1998年，台南市政府特將湯被害之處「民生綠園」，改名為湯德章紀念公園，以資紀念。
