Deer in the Clearing

Deer in the Clearing

A Deer walks into the clearing in South Park, PA during an early Spring morning.

I'm not an animal expert & I don't know the breeding seasons/patterns of deer but seeing this particular deer many times before (she has a distinct "U" shape on the top of her head) I would be willing to bet some money that she was pregnant here since she's never had that belly until now.

Capture Info:
Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Focal Length: 200mm
Exposure: 1/200 @ f/2.8
ISO: 500
Support: Homemade Beanbag on car window (shot from inside of car)
Date: 05/22/2009 @ approx 05:45am
Location: South Park, PA USA

Notes: That beanbag I made like a million years ago finally got some unplanned use. Sitting in the drivers seat I had to lean across the car, throw the bag up on the window ledge (this is why I always have both windows down when I drive through the park in the morning, no matter what the temperature or conditions) then drop my camera into place & start shooting. I think the fact that I stopped my car right in the middle of the road on a blind turn kind of shocked her a bit because she stared there & looked at me like I was crazt for a few moments before turning tail & running off. I could have sped up the road a bit because I knew exactly where she would be coming out but I make a point of never chasing these animals, even in a place like South Park where they are fairly used to people.

I realize this isn't exactly anything "special" but I like it & I don't use the same super-strict quality control here as I do in my portfolio & such.

Frozen Morning

Frozen Morning

The gazebo pond in South Park, PA is completely frozen over on an extremely cold November morning. Even the ducks that usually reside here have decided to move on (although they did return a few days later).

This image is an HDR composite of multiple exposures. (5 I believe) This is my first attempt at HDR imaging.

Sunny Slopes Sunrise

Sunny Slopes Sunrise

A spectular sunrise shows in the clouds over Sunny Slopes in South Park, PA. Sunny Slopes is where you would usually find dozens of children sled riding during these cold winter months but since we have yet to keep any decent snow on the ground it is still a very empty place.

"Ready To Go" Gear

"Ready To Go" Gear

All of my basic equipment that sits by the door "ready to go" should an interesting call come over the scanner or I just get the urge.
I suppose I could have used the camera that is in the camera bag to take this picture but then I couldn't say there is a camera in the bag.... anyway this is what I use:

Domke J-1: Hung on rear/left shoulder
- Canon EOS 30D w/ battery grip
- Canon EF-S 10-22mm attached to 30D
- Canon 580EX II x2
- Canon 430EX
- Pocket Wizard Plus II x4
- Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro
- Canon EF 50mm f/2.8 II (usually in cargo pants pocket or winter coat pocket)
- Canon CP-E4 Battery pack (just one unless I need the second one)
- Some other misc things that you can read about in the corresponding blog post

Targus Eco-Smart Messenger bag: hung cross-body from left shoulder to front/right hip
- Gateway 15" laptop
- Bluetooth Mouse
- Wired Mouse (for backup)
- iPod 30GB (not the ugly newest version, the previous one)
- Sandisk Extreme CF/SD card reader
- Spare laptop battery
- AC adapter for laptop
- NewsWeek, Digital Photo Pro, Newspaper or other reading material (which is semi-null since I got my iPhone)
- Aluminum mouse pad 8" square
- USB cables, spare phone chargers, extra batteries, etc

Then I carry my Canon EOS 40D w/ battery grip & Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens on my right shoulder, held in place behind the laptop bag. If I nees something else & it can't fit into a bag or be strapped to something or shoved in a pocket than I just don't bring it (unless it's mandatory, in that case I'll just leave it in my van)

I don't take the laptop bag with me, it just sits in the car under garbage & clothes so nobody sees it, then I kind of use my vehicle as a sort of "home base" & I have a battery hookup under the back of the passenger seat so I can download cards to my laptop & go back out shooting without worrying about leaving my car running or my laptop dying. So basically what I'm trying to tell you is that I'm awesome & you should hire me because my mom says I'm good :P
just kiddin, just kiddin. But you really should hire me! go to bgremba.blogspot.com in a minute to see the whole post that I'm about to post. When I post it, it will be a good post, that I posted.
Cool?
Cool.
