Weeds in my backyard

I don't know how much interest this will generate among the Flickr crowd, but I think it's worth a try. The subject is one of the most ordinary things imaginable. I went for a swim in our backyard pool shortly before sunset, and during a pause at the east end, I noticed the light effect on these weeds and the contrast with their background. I went inside to grab my camera and took several pictures while standing in the pool. This one was my favorite.

(Update: As I mention below in one of my comments, this picture of a couple of ordinary backyard weeds made Explore. I've just learned that it was ranked as high as #11 -- as far as I know, the highest ranking of any of my images that has ever attained that Holy Grail of Flickrdom -- and then was suddenly dropped. It might reappear, of course, but this illustrates how capricious Explore can be. Go figure.)

I love the soft glow in the background. Nice balance with the stark lines and contrast of the weeds.

Maybe it's ordinary, but it's beautiful too. Sometimes the ordinary thing has a strong beauty.

One of my faves! Beauty can be seen in a simple and ordinary things and this picture is a testament to that. Good picture for a cover book...just an idea.

Wow! Thanks for all the views, comments, and faves. And how could I have imagined that a picture of WEEDS -- of all things -- taken while I was standing chest-deep in a swimming pool, could make Explore? I just checked a moment ago, and this one did indeed make it, and is currently ranked #377. Of course, with Explore being the way it is, this image might be dropped altogether five minutes after I post this comment, but I do think I've had a pretty good journey with this one.

I'm of the belief that there's beauty in everything...even weeds. (Hence my participation in this group.) But I have to say, your photo actually brings back memories of my childhood in the Canadian prairies It's exactly the lighting and detail that makes this explore worthy. Congrats!
