T-bird

At the giftshop in our local library, I saw these toy cars on display, and asked the person in charge if I could take some pictures of them. She gave me permission, and I immediately set to work, with this being the best result of my efforts. I used my Nikkor 50mm f/1/8 lens, opened up to its largest aperture with a view to achieving a very shallow depth of field. (I also had to take into account the fact that I did not have my tripod with me at the moment.) I focused on the red Thunderbird in the center, and everything else around it appears out of focus. The bokeh in the background is from a display of Christmas lights.

Thats really good...even with a lot going on around it, the red car still stands out nicely.

WOW! Beautiful! You should do photos like this more often - as much as I enjoy your sunset shots - I must give this a fav for me to come back and learn from also. The DOF really makes the shot great.

      What a shot!

@mholt: Thanks for the feedback. Fellow Flickr member cobalt123 would probably agree with you, as she has been encouraging me to branch out and do some other things, which probably is a good idea. She seems to think I do abstract photography quite well, or that I at least have the potential to do well at it.

On this one, the lens made a lot of difference. That 50mm 1.8 is the only one I have that is fast enough to enable me to get this kind of shot without using a tripod. And as I said, I wanted a very narrow depth of field and good bokeh, and the lens delivered quite nicely on both counts.

BTW, I still need to e-mail your mom and dad. Have you ever shared any of my pictures with them?

Ah yeah, I've showed them some of your sunset photos. I'll send you a message with my mom's email address. I'm sure she'd be happy to get an email from ya.

As for the pic, the lens does seem to be doing its job quite well. Keep it will protected ;) It's worth something once it's out of the shops for good.

I like the "spherical aberration" in the upper left of the frame. It's busy yet it works-- it's festive!

      Beautiful shot.
You know, I love American muscle cars, including Thunderbird, with a 472ci huge engine ;)
