Fab sunset 7/7/06 (1)
Along with four LDS missionaries and a fellow from another ward which meets in the same building as ours, I was invited to dinner one Friday evening by my friends Greg and Theresa Sorrell. I took my camera with me, anticipating what eventually did happen. We socialized for awhile after the meal was over, and I peeked outside at one point to see if the sunset would be worth capturing. It was. Greg was in the garage, showing his other guests his substantial (and impressive) collection of firearms, and I told him I would be gone for a few minutes to take some sunset pictures. He smiled sort of bemusedly, as if he had known this was going to happen. I took one image in front of their house before I left, and then I was gone for about 20 minutes, during which I captured this one.
(Update: I have been informed that this image has been adopted by a secretary in Iran for use as her computer's screen saver. This was done with my permission, communicated to her through an intermediary. I figure that if imitation is the best and sincerest form of flattery, something like this must be a close second.)

I guess colorful sunsets have sort of become my trademark, haven't they? One of my friends told me I am now the Sunset Man of Flickr, and if I ever decide to drop gwilmore and adopt a new Flickr name, that one might be it. Thanks for the compliment, and it is good to see you again.

Ha ha! You're not the first to ask about my name. When I signed up for Flickr I couldn't think of of a creative screen name. They suggest things like "your favorite place", which is Sedona for me. They suggest your pet's name, our dog being "Biscuit". And my favorite color is blue. I really didn't know all three would be combined to make my screen name.

Oh, I think there are others responsible for making it habit-forming, although I suppose if Flickr were a controlled substance, I could justly be accused of being a pusher. Amusing story about your name, by the way.

What a beaut. *sigh* I love pictures like this. You should look into panoramics (using programs like Autostitch). That way you can capture even more of the fire sky.
