- I guess this one lost an arm at some point? There seems to be a lot of scaring at about the right height.
Saguaro Cactus
Saguaro (sa-wa-roe), the largest cactus in Arizona, grows from than fifty feet tall. The Saguaro does not grow its first arm until it reaches a height of five feet or more. A giant Saguaro can weigh as much as 10 short tones. The Saguaro blooms with a crown of flowers encircling its extremities in May or June, growing only in Southern Arizona, Southeast California and Northwest Mexico the giant cactus can live up to 200 years.
The Saguaro is harvest by desert tribes and eaten fresh or prepared as jelly or syrup, with the dried wood ribs of the stems being used by the Native Americans for fuel and making frames for their homes.
