Take the train

Take the train

(Chicago, Illinois) - I should have waited for the next train, but I was cold and dusk was fading. I loved the reflection off the white building...

View to die for

View to die for

(Chicago, Illinois) - Some smiles and a $10 upgrade over the conference rate was all it took to land this awesome room on the 19th floor at the Renaissance Chicago. Yum, yum...I can eat these views all month long.

Fisheye through the window.

Eisenhower

Eisenhower

(Chicago, Illinois) - Ever since I was here in 2006 with my primitive S3 IS I've been meaning to come back to this location. I'm not even convinced this is the same location. Luckily the cops decided to leave me alone this time.

Man, I can't even believe that it has been over 5 years since I got my first dSLR (Xmas present for myself in 2006).

...and I should have shot through the fence. The 24-105 pushes bush in to 24mm when hold against the fence. The 70-200mm which is better for this was foolishly left in my rental car half a block away (and dusk faded to fast this cold, windy and cloudy day to get it in time). You can see the fence challenge below.

Night panning

Night panning

(Chicago, Illinois) - I didn't really have much time to shoot in Chicago this time. I tried to pan some cars at 1/40 along Wacker Drive as I was walking to meet up with a friend. And this one came out pretty well. My tracking was almost perfect. Without the high ISO I could not get this image. I guess with a 24-70mm at f/2.8 I could step down to ISO 2000, but I've never really been convinced my the 24-70mm. It has no IS and less flexibility than the 24-105. Maybe the pictures are better - and the f/2.8 can be nice, but I'm sticking with the 24-105. Even the new 24-70mm that is heavily rumored is supposed to not have IS. Why? Beats me for a high end lens.
