Ardrossan harbour

    Newer Older

This picture is worth about six grand, because i wrote my car off about 2 minutes later.

I think one of the problems with getting into photography, for me anyway is that I spend more time looking out for the next photographic opportunity than I do looking at the road in front of me. Anyway I drove into a low lying bollard, right in front of the Calmac terminal building and ripped the front wheel off (how embarrassing)!
This is the first accident I have had in 18 years of driving, Doh!

Your story with the car is a wake-up call for me. I've nearly done the same thing once or twice recently. Photography can be a very expensive activity -- in more ways than one!

Peter If this is any consolation, If I had to wreck my car to get a shot like that (without the risk of hurting myself of course) I would not think twice about doing it. Photography is my passion! The car can be replaced but photos like these are once in a lifetime opportunity. Soon the memory of the car will pass but you will have this photographic experience of this amazing shot FOREVER!!

Nice shot, but it's not fair you got a bigger wave than me ; )

OMG - that's bad - but can see how easily it is done, good light and conditions are so distracting! Fantastic action wave shot!

Well, what's a car compared to a good photo ? I once got drenched by a wave like this when trying to photograph the sea, at Whitby. The force made me step back and I realised I was quite close to being washed into the harbour - you do have to be careful. The camera body was ruined too but being an old film SLR I was able to replace it for £8.
