Luz Saint Sauveur
Just before the Start of the climb to Luz Ardiden, having descended at frightening speed from the Col De Tourmalet. Don't know who the Z rider is but followed by Greg Lemond, Miguel Indurain, then Pedro Delgado. I'm pretty sure this is 1990 and that Indurain went on to win this stage but I'll have to check that. Any info on the other riders appreciated. Oh and if it is 1990 Greg Lemond went on tho win!

Hi Steve,
What a great picture. With Lemond in the rainbow jersey, it is most definitely 1990. The stage standings that day were Indurain, Lemond, Lejarreta, Torres, Parra, Conti, Criquielion, Delgado, Boyer, Delion (could this be the mystery Z rider?). I thought for a second that the Z rider was Gilbert Duclos-Lasalle, but I can't be certain.
Must have been cool to be there, though.

Thanks for the comment, I've scanned in another image that I took a few seconds before this one, looks like Lemond had kept two Z riders with him that day, I have no idea who either of them are, which is quite bad really.
It was cool to be there although being higher up on the climb would have been better. For some stupid reason we had decided to cycle up and back down Col D'Aubisque before going to see The Tour, as a consequence the road beyond this point was closed to all, including cyclists, so this was where we stayed. We managed to watch them over the Col D'Aubisque the next day.
The riders came around this corner at a high speed, equally impressive with regard to speed, and somewhat alarming, was the sight of the teams cars as they came around the same bend!

far left Dimitri Konyshev (red-white Jersey). Definitly 1990, on this picture we can see Gilles Delion too, 6th position. The two far behind i don't know, sorry!
