- My hand.
- where you get this o2 logo?? - tripasverdes
- and this for the battery?? - tripasverdes
- See the comments. ;)
- It's a built in feature of the iPhone 3GS. To get it on the 2G or 3G iPhone you need to jailbreak it.
To use it on the 3GS, go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Battery Percentage and switch it to On.

Geocaching
Went to Birmingham today and saw Avatar in 3D at the IMAX, and I found two Geocaches - a real one, near the IMAX, and the Bullring bull, which is a virtual cache - meaning there's nothing to find, but you have to take a photo of you or your GPS at it. My iPhone is my GPS, so here's the photo of it that I took.
I think it's quite a good photo to be honest. :D

The blue circle indicates cell-site triangulation rather than an actual GPS satellite lock.
Actual GPS lock looks like this ;-)

Yeah. It takes a while to get a lock though and I had to catch a train, so I didn't wait. =P

I just noticed the little funky o2 icon, did you install that somehow? Great shot though :)

It's jailbroken - the whole blue iPhone UI is a different one too (Matte UI):
If you want to know more about jailbreaking, Google is your friend. If you want the O2 logo, just ask. ;)

Ahh, thankyou for replying :) I jailbroke my phone a month or two after I bought it and eventually restored it back to the 'official' software, just because there weren't really any differences that made me want to stick with the hack. Saying that; the o2 logo is pretty sweet..but since I'm moving over to T-Mobile in a week's time it probably wouldn't be the best choice :)
Thanks again for the info :)

No problem. I mainly jailbreak because I like to theme my phone...the default look is okay but it's a bit bland at times, if you ask me.

Was this a geocaching app you were using? If so, what is it called?
William Hook (29 months ago | reply)
Nope, it's the normal Maps app. I usually use the Geocaching.com app, which is £5.99 - www.geocaching.com/iphone/
The one complaint about it that I have is that it doesn't use Google Maps, however, there is a reason for this. Within the app, you can "download" a cache's info, including the map tiles, description, hint, and so on. It's mostly there for if you're going out of cellular range, or if you use an iPod touch.
Anyway, because of this, Google Maps cannot be used, as Google don't allow caching of their map tiles. Bing, on the other hand, does allow it.
The only way you CAN use Google Maps is via the Maps application on the iPhone, but then you have to quit that and go back to the Geocaching app, so it does get a bit annoying at times.
