Guanella Pass, Colorado is one of my favorite areas during Autumn and I have been visiting for a few years now during that time of the year. I came pretty close last year with getting the shot that I wanted with this scene, but still, pre-dawn wind was an issue as it almost always is right before sunrise in Colorado, especially in the mountains. This year though? I completely lucked out and had just about none at all. I was pretty excited knowing that I could finally get the shot I have been chasing for so long. This is one of them. I hope you all enjoy it—-John

Skies Of A Summer Sunset

Skies Of A Summer Sunset

I've been crazy busy the last couple of weeks with redoing my whole website, it is though almost here finally.
This was photographed this past summer. I love it when the storm clouds reflect against the sunset as it often creates some of the very best light and color possible and this scene was no exception with how the highlights in the clouds were painted a bright pink against the deep blue sky and dark grey of the thunderstorm. Certainly conditions which I will soon not forget.

Sunflowers Of Golden Hour

Sunflowers Of Golden Hour

Sunflowers bathe in the sunset light of golden hour along the eastern plains of Colorado. Each and every year I look forward to the massive sunflower fields here in Colorado, it is paradise defined...

Lake Of Romance

Lake Of Romance

I know a lot of photographers tend to get depressed, mad, upset if they wake up at 3am to get on location to shoot first light only to have no clouds at all. Not I and I think this shot demonstrates why exactly. We literally raced to the top of Lake Brainard here in Colorado to get there in time as I saw the sunlight slowly starting to make it's presence known and I bolted the minute the car was parked, scrambling for my gear, bolting on my filters, waiting for the light to just absolutely pop, and pop it did. The reds were so incredibly saturated that I actually had to dumb them down inside Lightroom some. I loved how sky the blue was this past Saturday morning and how the reflection of the peaks and the color it turned the water just went crazy. I froze my butt off (won't be shooting in the AM again this year without gloves) but wow was it worth it!

Sunflower Sea

Sunflower Sea

Sunflowers seem to go on forever as the sunset gives way to the days last light in Colorado. Each and every August I look forward to photographing the sunflower fields, and the one we found this year is one of the largest I have ever seen....amazing really.
