      The film advertised on the canopy banner is Leslie Howard, Ingrid Bergman in "Intermezzo" (1939). This would possibly date the photograph as 1940.

      Could well be.............. I got the photo from a publication "The City of Cape Town Official Guide 1951"
      I think the "car" guys would be able to date this pic. accurately.

      Saturday morning shows for us 1940's kids. Brink your Captain Marvel or Superman Comics to swap, buy a cup of popcorn and watch a cowboy show (Roy Rogers or Gene Autry) for1/2(R0.12)

      As a 'car guy' for six decades I'm pretty confident that the closest car in Riebeeck St is a '41 Ford, two cars behind it is either a 1940 or '41 Plymouth. Even sharpening the largest file version in Photoshop the pic is still not clear enough to pinpoint the models 100%; most frustrating!

      Wow I used to frequent the big four bioscopes as I was crazy about the movies. What about the midnight shows and we could still get home with public transport after that. I saw Francois Hardy at the Alambra. Damn them demolishing all the great buildings in Cape town incuding the old railway station!
