      how long did you have to wait with your camera poised at the sky in order to get that shot? awesome!

      well, you have to take long exposures and hope the lightning will strike while exposing :)
      or, you can set your camera to BULB open the shutter and wait for the lightning; then, 3-5 seconds after the lightning strikes, close the shutter.
      the tricky part is to manage to focus on the area where the lightning WILL strike :)
