Hombres Problematicos Numero Catorce

If they're just play-acting at being drunk, I'm gonna have to kick them out of the "Hombres Problematicos" set. There's something about the wan expression on the fellow in front, and the casual way they're holding the whiskey bottles, that makes me think this is the genuine article. Otherwise, they're a trio of fine actors.
On the back of this postcard, which was apparently taken at a photographer's studio by the name of "Rensler's" which
perhaps was in the Prince Hotel building at Court and Vine Streets in Cincinnati, Ohio, it says: (as best I can make out) "Dad's right Bennett, W.V. line gang for John Sellers Other man where they boarded."
I'm guessing then that "Dad" is the fellow in front, Bennett is on the right, and the other guy with the bowler hat was staying at the same boarding house. What "line gang" refers to I don't know---railraod, telephone, who knows---but it's America at work, what else?
I've got a South Carolina good ole boy who has boxes and boxes of photos, though he never has them all at the same time. This last time I saw him, he wanted me to by the whole box (maybe a thousand photos). He informed me that he had sold two boxes in toto to some other collector.
If I were in the business of selling the photos, buying the box wouldn't be so bad, especially if I had an eye as good as mine (no false modesty here). There almost always are diamonds flecked amidst the chicken litter. But I'm cursed with my eye and my sensibility, which is that bad photographs are like millstones around my neck---I don't need any more.

These guys definitely are wasted or "bladdered " as people seem to say here now. "Dad's" collar all askew. Dad and Mr Bennett evidently bought their boots from the same place.

Hahah . Big trouble when they got back to the boarding house..

Wouldn't "Dad's right" be our left? So the "other" fellow would be the one in the fedora.
It's amazing the high waist on the man standing.

    Love your collection.

That guy on the upper left is a dead ringer for Leonardo di Caprio. :-)

I'd suggest that the fellow on the upper left (and nicknaming him "Leonardo" would not be far wrong) is a bit too dapper to be a fellow boarder, whether at the rooming-house or the flophouse. He's obviously a cut above the other two, and shows no signs of the ravages of dipsomania. He's also a bit self-satisfied, which the other two decidedly are not. I'd peg him as their local bootlegger. the appearance of his two customers speaks volumes abut the high quality of his product.

As they used to say on the playground, "is that a threat, or a promise?"

Heheh. Someone once said the playground is the cruellest place in the world. Got to be cruel to be cruel.

    You lookin' at me?

Ok. I was going to go with the Pogues but I thought The Temperance Seven might amuse these guys :

definitely the pogues i would have thought - 'streams of whiskey' seeming particularly apt for these boys

Thats the one I was going to choose-there is quite a good clip on You Tube but I decided to be contrary...these guys may have been tempted to take "The Pledge" after their night on the town.

I also want to find the temperance song that has the line

"the lips that have touched liquor shall never touch mine..."
