Keping Watch

Keping Watch

An owl keeps watch over the Sadian Toombs where it has made it's home. I think it is a type of Little Owl but it was very pale compared to the ones I've seen in the UK and appeared larger.

Room of the Twelve Columns

Room of the Twelve Columns

Saadian Toombs. This is where the sultan's son Ahmad al-Mansur was buried with his wives.
The columns are made of Italian marble which the Moroccans traded weight for weight for sugar cane.

Saadian Toombs

Saadian Toombs

These are the tombs of the Saadi family who were Sutlan's during the 116th Century. The royal family members were buried inside while their household, including servants, were buried in these graves outside.
This graveyard was hidden from view for centuries under a metre of mud and surrounded by buildings. The only access was through a small door in the adjoining mosque. It was eventually spotted by the pilot of a light aircraft in 1917 as he flew over it. Now access is gained via a narrow alley.
